Description

WHAT ARE MANDALAS?

Mandala is a Sanskrit word which means sacred circle. Another tranlation is "essence container". This term has a more mystical and psychological connotation. A mandala is a symbol of wholeness and completeness. It is a symbolic diagram bounded by an outer circle into which patterns and painted or drawn; they are an ancient art form used in many cultures as a method to connect to our centre and are an expression of this inner Self. They are a symbolic vista of our inner landscape along the journey to self-knowledge and of being in the world.

WHY CREATE A MANDALA?

Creating a mandala is an inner journey from one state of awareness to another, expressed within the mandala by each pattern, form, colour and shape and their relationships. Creating mandalas helps us to connect to and integrate aspects of our inner selves of which we are not aware. They allow the integration of all life experiences as they impact on us, the good, the bad and the indifferent. They help us gain clarity and give meaning to our life.
The process of creating mandalas allows us to access and express that part of our inner Self that enables us to heal on all levels, to process difficult experiences and pain by connecting us to our own centre. It is a pathway to achieving healing of body and mind and spiritual transformation, leading to a more authentic life.

CREATING A MANDALA:

• Helps to develop a sense of peace within, acceptance, more self-understanding and self-knowledge
• Fosters self-awareness, growth and healing
• Provides a container and balance for feelings, thoughts and experiences
• Regenerates a sense of hope and provides nurturing
• In a group setting, it gives the participants the opportunity to share the art work and connect with others gives a sense of shared experience and receive support from others in the group.
