The macOS has a powerful tool, the command line in Terminal.app, which can be very useful to power users and and administrators of macs. This course will introduce users to Terminal.app and some of the commands available. Many commands provide options not available through the graphical user interface. The commands learnt can be used for configuration, troubleshooting and remote management. This practical course will kick start your command line interface (CLI) use.

Objectives

• Be comfortable in navigating the computer using Terminal.app
• Be aware of some of some possible uses of the command line
• Be able to read, write and manipulate files and directories in the command line
• Be able to perform some basic configuration and trouble shooting using the command line


Who should attend?

• Power users and technicians wanting a deeper understanding of the Mac

• IT Support staff new to Mac

• Users intending to update to the 10.13 ACSP certification, which now includes some Terminal content


Prerequisites

• A good understanding of macOS
• macOS troubleshooting experience
• Desirable: have attended macOS Support Essentials or JAMF Pro training or passed the ACSP exam

Trainer

Richard Gynes, MSc. ACT, ACTC is an Apple Certified Trainer and service engineer. After studying design and photography Richard worked as a museum photographer in the UK, before moving to education.
Richard has actively been involved with Apple computer and iPad deployments for many schools and businesses. Since 2007 he has been conducting Apple Mac, iPad and software training in Australia.
