This workshop is designed to teach researchers the fundamentals of logistic regression.
We’ll cover the theory and practice of binary logistic regression and discuss topics such as:
• Odds and odds ratios
• Contingency table analysis
• Interpretation of regression coefficients
• Model goodness of fit
More advanced topics including variable selection strategies in multivariable logistic regression will be also discussed.
After attendance at the workshop, you should be able to:
• Decide whether binary logistic regression is appropriate for your data
• Interpret results from a logistic regression analysis
• Test which logistic regression model best fits the data
• Understand the concept of model assumptions checking
Prerequisites
Participants are expected to have a familiarity with the concepts of analytic epidemiology, descriptive statistics and elementary statistical hypothesis testing. Exercises will be based on Stata and some prior experience with this software would be an advantage.
The Stata codes required to complete the exercises will be provided.
Who should attend?
PhD students and early career researchers within the Faculty of Health who are considering using regression approaches in their research. The day would suit people currently involved in, or about to start, postgraduate study and other researchers who wish to expand their quantitative research skills.
