Introduction to Kendo - Semester 2, 2020
Event Information
About this Event
The ANU Kendo Club Introduction to Kendo program provides foundational training and understanding of kendo. Over the 6-week course starting from Tuesday 10 November, participants will be instructed in a group setting by experienced instructors on:
- The basic principles and techniques of kendo
- Care and use of equipment such as shinai (bamboo sword) and bogu (protective gear)
- Dojo etiquette.
The program is aimed at complete beginners - no experience with kendo or any other martial art is required. As kendo is a physical activity, participants are assumed to be of average health and fitness.
The club has a COVID-safe plan with ANU Sport and we are guided by the COVID-safe plans from our National Sporting Organisation (The Australian Kendo Renmei) and our State Sporting Organisation (ACT Kendo Renmei).
Registration for this program is open to ANU students, and all ANU Sport members, and general public over the age of 16. If you are under 16, please contact Canberra Kenyukai.
For Eventbrite registration, please select the first date that you are coming along(10 or 17 November, 2020).
ANUKC will provide all kendo equipment for the duration of the program. Please wear loose and comfortable clothes to training (gym gear is a good option), and avoid tight pants or skirts. No watches or jewellery please.
Participants are expected to attend as many sessions as possible during the 6 weeks.
Those completing the Introduction to Kendo program will be invited to join the club and attend regular club training sessions.
Please arrive early, so you have time to change, meet the instructors, and get / put on your gear.
