Description

This creative experiential workshop is curated to directly demonstrate Ballarat as a UNESCO city of craft and folk art. Members of the public are invited to take part in this unique fibre arts practice with our talented Soldiers Hill Artist Collective (SHAC) textile fibre artist, Ms Judith Bryce. Judith is a retired teacher and well-known fibre artist in Ballarat and has exhibited her work in several SHAC exhibitions.

Target audience: anyone interested in beginning fibre art stitching skills.

Minimum and maximum participants each workshop: 5 - 10

Process: Participants will work in a small group and are introduced to basic stitch techniques. The base of a small vessel will be commenced.

Materials: Needles, raffia, other natural plants which have been collected and incorporated into basket stitch and weaving techniques. These materials are supplied for participants.

Equipment: This workshop will be convened at the North Ballarat Bowls Club where there is ample table space to safely accommodate up to 10 participants.

Results: Participants will take home a beginning basket which can be completed at home. They will also take home a small weaving kit, a needle and some raffia.
