Event description

Description

Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) originated in Germany around 1900, and used as a structural material in Australia since the 1950’s. Today, Australian GLT is used for both structural and decorative applications including posts, beams, joists, rafters, columns, blades, stairs, benchtops, post + beam and portal frame structures. Its strength-to-weight ratio is better than steel and solid timber products, making it well-suited to tall timber structures.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Understand what Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) is, and its history in Australia
  • List the benefits of GLT and suitable applications
  • Apply the basic guidelines for designing and specifying with GLT
  • Select appropriate products based on their application
