This 1-day workshop will focus on the basics of spit bite aquatints using copper plates in order to create subtle tonal washes.

Venue: Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, 27 Popran Road, Adamstown

This 1-day workshop will focus on the basics of spit bite aquatints using copper plates. Students will learn how to apply Ferric Chloride to a copper plates in order to create subtle and dramatic tonal washes. All supplies are provided for you to make a series of small prints. Previous experience in intaglio techniques is beneficial, but not essential.

Own PPE is essential: eye protection and P2 mask is essential! Partipants cannot use the aquatint room without these items.

Materials Fee: $20 per person

What students need to bring: participants must bring their P2 face mask, safety glasses and gloves; own pre-developed ideas for your print (drawings, compositions, enclosed shoes, apron, own drink and lunch.

MASK WEARING IS NOW MANDATORY IN THIS CLASS!

Due to NPW’s Covid Policy - this workshop is limited to 7 participants to ensure we comply with social distancing. The workshop will be sanitised prior to, during, and after the class. You are expected to bring your own disposable gloves and other required PPE to this workshop.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Chris Clifton is a printmaker and photographer based here in Newcastle. He has completed Advanced Printmaking and Drawing courses at Newcastle Art School as well as a Diploma in Visual Arts (Printmaking and Photography). He has taught at high schools for a number of years and is currently balancing being a stay-at-home dad, masters student and artist. Chris likes to combine a range of print and non-print mediums in order to explore human-nature relationships, critical theories and the illusive ‘boundaries’ we like to create between ourselves, others and the environment.
