Event description

Description

This workshop provides a basic introduction to Galaxy Australia, and will include a hands-on beginners tutorial for variant detection in microbial data using Galaxy Australia.

The workshop has been organised by the Biosciences Data Enhanced Virtual Lab (DeVL) Galaxy Australia project and EMBL-ABR and will be led by Dr Igor Makunin from the University of Queensland, who is a trainer for for Galaxy Australia. Igor will lead the workshop from Queensland, with trained facilitators on hand at a number of venues across Australia to assist participants locally.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

Researchers and students with an interest in variant detection. Knowledge of basic biology is assumed.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this training, participants will be able to use tools in Galaxy Australia to perform variant detection in microbial data.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED

Galaxy Australia

Variant Detection

  • What is it?

  • How can we use Galaxy Australia to detect variants, such as single nucleotide polymorphisms and insertions/deletions?

  • An example using bacteria data.

Visualise Variants

  • How can we use Galaxy Australia to visualise our called variants?
