Event description

Description

Patients presenting to the Emergency Department can have a wide array of clinical problems and can vary with respect to the acuity of their illness. Patients with high acuity clinical problems such as shock or decreased conscious state, can be challenging for junior doctors. Learning about these conditions can improve patient care both in the Emergency Department and other patient care settings via early recognition of serious illness, instuitution of appropriate management and referral to senior medical staff.

The aim of this course is to provide the basic knowledge and practical skills for the assessment of important clinical problems encountered in the Emergency Department. Specifically, the course will focus on the "ABCDs", namely airway, breathing and oxygen management, circulation and shock, decreased conscious state as well as trauma and basic fracture management.
