Event description

Description

INTOXICA play rock and roll, pure and simple. With Garage, Rockabilly, Surf and Blues in it. Thumping drums and bass, fuzzy and twangy guitars and the distinctive vocal styling and hypnotic presence of Tony Shaw. You can dance to every song except the really fast ones you can shake to.

These Melbourne alternative legends are playing more and more these days. A new generation of fans is packing into venues like the Retreat and Cherry to witness what 'The Age' describes as 'psychobilly legends'. Hell, they're even touring interstate again!

Intoxica is the only band from the eighties that hasn't quit and reformed. If you get the chance to experience their unique blend of psychobilly, surf apocalypse, and relentless rock and roll, presented in blistering live performance, you will understand how they came to influence and inspire so many of today's "new rock" acts. The catalog number of their fist (vinyl) album was Shock LP 001 - that was a long time and many rockin' releases ago - INTOXICA have never been big time but have always guaranteed you the best time out!
INTOXICA emerged from the demise of The Corpse Grinders in 1987 and the name wasn't the only thing that changed. The Corpse Grinders were a gloriously madcap psychobilly riot but INTOXICA was free to add echoes of primal garage in The Sonics, the surf sounds of The Ventures, Eddie Bertrand and Dick Dale, the twang of the Buckaroos and the rave of Hasil Adkins. INTOXICA started gigging in 1987 and haven't stopped. They've released three albums and five singles and their songs feature on numerous compilations. They've opened for Deborah Harry, Dick Dale and The Stray Cats. They rock!
