Understand your registration obligations, know your employee entitlements, stay connected and learn to recognise your limitations.

About this event

This inaugural event, will feature key speakers from AHPRA, AMA (WA)’s Workplace Relations team, the Doctors in Training Committee and the AMA (WA) President, who will draw on their experiences and highlight the essential information that new interns need to be aware of.

The event will also be the official launch of the AMA (WA) member resource – the 2022 Internship Guide.

6.00pm - Official welcome from AMA (WA) President Dr Mark Duncan-Smith

6.05pm - AHPRA Registration & Updating Details - Karen Banks, AHPRA State Manager

6.15pm - Internship Employment Entitlements – Understanding your payslip, leave entitlements and salary sacrificing - AMA (WA) Industrial Relations Team

6.35pm - Wellbeing Matters too – know the signs of burn out in yourself and your colleagues - AMA (WA) DiT Committee

6.45pm - The benefits of AMA (WA) membership and what the organisation can do for you

7.00pm - Networking drinks and nibbles

7.30pm - Event close

* Please note parking is limited at the rear of the AMA (WA) office, however there is ample street parking in Bruce Street, Nedlands.

MEET THE SPEAKERS

Dr Mark Duncan-Smith - AMA (WA) President

A consultant plastic & burns surgeon, Dr Mark Duncan-Smith has a post-grad degree in corporate governance & management from the Australian Catholic university.

Karen Banks - AHPRA State Manager

Since coming to Australia in 2006, Karen has held senior roles with South Metropolitan Health Service as a Project Director and as Executive Director of Public Health.

Amanda Kacmarek - AMA (WA) Workplace Relations Team

Amanda is a lawyer in our Workplace Relations team and provides support and representation to doctors in training in matters relating to their employee entitlements, contracts and industrial relations issues.

Dr Jemma Hogan Co-Chair - AMA (WA) Doctors in Training Committee

Dr Jemma Hogan is a doctor specialising in medical administration (RACMA) and paediatric medicine (RACP). She is currently the Acting Director of Medical Services at St John of God Mt Lawley Hospital and also works as a Paediatric Registrar at Perth Childrens Hospital.
