Description

International Women’s Day is an important time to come together and acknowledge our achievements, as well as highlight the important work still to be done to create a better world for women.

To celebrate International Women's Day, CommBank's Women in Focus are hosting events in capital cities and regional centres around Australia.

At each event we’ll come together to fundraise and support community initiatives that empower women through education, business incubators and financial literacy programs. We’ll be joined by inspiring speakers who are thought leaders in their fields, all working to build better communities.

United together, we believe we have the power to lift each other up, and make a lasting impact on improving the quality of life of women and their families.

Marta Dusseldorp

Stage, film and theatre actress

An award-winning actress with a career spanning more than two decades, Marta’s resume teems with highlights from both the stage and screen, including starring roles in Australian television dramas A Place to Call Home and Janet King. Marta is a member of the STC Actor's Company, an ambassador for Save the Children Australia, part of the circle of leaders of the Sydney Community Foundation, and a member of the advisory council of the Sydney Community Foundation’s Sydney Women’s Fund, a fund developed to create equal access to opportunities for all women and girls.

Wendy McCarthy AO

Educator, mentor and change agent

Wendy McCarthy began her professional life as a secondary school teacher, moving from the classroom into community and active public life in the early seventies. Since then, she has been a change agent, educator and advocate nationally and internationally in areas as diverse as women’s rights, family planning, public health, heritage and conversation, media, overseas aid and development and governance. Wendy is a cofounder and patron of the Sydney Community Foundation’s Sydney Women’s Fund.
