Event description

Description

This is a historic time for women in architecture and city making: for the first time in NSW we have a female Government Architect and our membership and regulatory bodies are led by women.

This International Women’s Day we invite you to join us at the Institute’s annual breakfast to celebrate these achievements while acknowledging the work yet to be done. Featuring a keynote address from the newly appointed Government Architect NSW Abbie Galvin, recipient of the 2019 Marion Mahony Griffin Prize for women in architecture, the event will also include a discussion led by a panel of eminent previous winners.

Abbie Galvin is the recipient of more than 40 state, national and international awards over a 25-year career, and her design portfolio spans public, urban, health, research, defence, education, commercial and workplace projects.

Alongside an exemplary design career, Abbie is also distinguished by her outstanding advocacy for the profession. She was instrumental in the creation of Sydney Open more than twenty years ago, to this day, a highly anticipated annual event which unlocks the doors of the city’s most treasured buildings.

Despite her devotion to architecture, Abbie is admired by her peers for achieving that which eludes many in the profession – work/life balance.

Doors open at 7.30am, for 8.00am start.

Entry to Lower Town Hall via Druitt Street, opposite QVB.

Ticket price includes a plated breakfast.
