The IGSN is an alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies samples from our natural environment and related sampling features.
The one-day symposium will:
review current implementations of IGSN in Australia
investigate further applications (university research, state geological surveys, other types of samples etc)
review international trends
chart sustainable infrastructure for the future
Speakers will include Jens Klump from CSIRO and Kerstin Lenhert of Columbia University. They are both members of the Executive Board of the International Geo Sample Number Implementation Organization (IGSN). The organisation coordinates the development and introduction of persistent identifiers for physical specimens of research materials.
