How public policy, research and industry are approaching opportunities and risks of AI in an international context — a contribution to the way forward in EU-AU collaboration

Experts from Australia and Europe will enable discussion around current public policy, research and industry trends in different aspects of artificial intelligence, in particular as they relate to the Australian Government’s newly released “Australia’s Tech Future” strategy. Perspectives from different nations and different areas of AI will facilitate a joint vision for future AI collaboration between Australia and Europe.

A morning panel discussion will explore different national approaches, policies and strategies around AI. It will include presentations from the European Commission’s perspective, as well as from EU Member States, plus the Australian Government. This discussion will provide a forum to share experiences and policy directions, and to compare different approaches from different jurisdictions.

This will establish the context for afternoon sessions that will involve several workshops on pertinent research topics related to AI, followed by networking cocktails. Each workshop will address different aspects of AI, focussing on current trends in public policy, research and industry, and will include international perspectives. Workshop topics will include:

  • Security - safeguarding online and physical systems
  • Law/Policy - enabling reliable and trusted governance and business environments
  • Health - improving health and well-being outcomes
  • Education - transforming learning environments, organisations and professions
  • Arts/Culture - enlivening experience and community
  • Robotic Vision - creating intelligent vision-capable robots
