International Day of People with Disability Event
Event Information
About this Event
Event description
Help us to challenge stigma surrounding disability, educate others and make positive changes to the lives of 4.4 million of Australians with disability.
The theme for 2020 is "not all disabilities are visible". This year we focus on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent. Keynote speakers, including Disability Discrimination Commissioner Ben Gauntlett, will share their experiences of living with disability and barriers they’ve experienced, particularly those related to healthcare access. A panel discussion will provide an opportunity to explore the challenges faced by people with disability and discuss ways to take action to promote inclusion and accessibility in healthcare services. Light refreshments and the opportunity to network will be available following the proceedings.
Details about the panel members and speakers will be available closer to the event.
Organiser description
Providing an inclusive health system for the Western Australian community that empowers people with disability to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health and wellbeing throughout their life is a key priority of the Disability Health Network and South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS). We recognise that strengthening relationships with our community is critical to our ability to deliver on this goal.
