Description

This workshop will be valuable for those participants with complex IP portfolios, as well as those considering IP strategies, to gain an understanding of the complexities, and potential danger areas, in managing valuable IP assets, particularly patents and copyright.


This free workshop will cover topics that extend beyond just med tech related issues including:

  • Correctly identifying inventors
  • Correctly identifying, and ensuring that you have the right subject matter
  • Prospectus due-diligence for IP assets
  • Understanding what you actually have protected
  • Communicating your IP value proposition to investors / stakeholders
  • Examples of when things go wrong



Key Speakers

Tom Gumley

Tom is a registered patent attorney, specialising in advising Australian biotechnology and chemistry clients on their US, European and Asian patent matters. He has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property matters. Tom is highly regarded for the commercial approach that he brings to client matters, and is known for his expertise in assisting Australian companies globally.


Dr Gregory Ward

Greg brings an extensive commercial background covering a range of IP matters, having worked in various investment banking and corporate advisory roles in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia for over 16 years, where he worked with major chemical and pharmaceutical companies in a range of capital market advisory transactions, including take-overs, asset acquisitions and disposals and corporate restructures.

Greg has extensive hands on experience negotiating large industry and university contracts, including licensing, research and commercialisation of early stage IP. Greg holds a PhD in Chemistry from Cambridge University and a Grad. Dip. Law from the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board (NSW).
