CLINICAL SKILLS WORKSHOP FOR VICTORIAN DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (DHHS) FUNDED Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) WORKERS

Turning Point has been funded by DHHS to deliver a series of workshops designed to up skill the AOD workforce in current best practice in Intake and Assessment, Counselling Skills, Group Skills, Recovery Oriented Practice, Co-occurring Disorders and Current Issues in AOD. These workshops provide an opportunity for current workers in the AOD sector to either learn new skills or consolidate/update existing skills in these areas. Workers will be able to choose whether to attend one or two or more of these workshops depending on their professional development needs and those of the services in which they work.

Places are limited in these free workshops, so all participants are requested to provide their Manager’s contact details during registration. Managers will be contacted if participants fail to attend training without providing notice.

Intake and Assessment – increasing your confidence and skills in using
the current documents, half day workshop.

Trainer: Phoebe Spry-Bailey

This half day workshop will focus on the current Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) Intake and Assessment documents with the aim of increasing the confidence and skills of clinicians. This workshop is designed for clinicians interested to learn about the 2017 updates and to inform and support those new to the role of Intake and Assessment.

This interactive workshop is both practical and skills based and will cover the following key areas.

Intake:

  • introducing the intake document
  • supporting clinical judgment to inform assessment, decision making and referral

Assessment:

  • understanding the role of the Self Complete form and interpreting the four screening instruments
  • using the comprehensive assessment to ensure treatment needs are adequately assessed and recorded
  • writing effective brief case formulation

Phoebe Spry-Bailey has over 20 years clinical experience in AOD sector. One of her key areas of interest and learning is in the area of intake and assessment. Phoebe has delivered intake and assessment
workshops for the AOD sector across Victoria as well as teaching at both Certificate IV and post graduate level. She has a Graduate Diploma in Addiction/Mental Health and Cert IV in Training and Assessment.

Who should attend? Victorian DHHS funded AOD workers new to the role of Intake and Assessment.
