Event description

Description

Suffering and the end of suffering

Our relationship to suffering (stress, distress, unsatisfactoriness, “dukkha”) is at the heart of everything the Buddha taught.

During this one-day workshop, we will explore some of the common ways we inadvertently amplify our suffering, by relating to it in ways that make it worse, rather than better. As we come to understand these patterns, we can also find ways to help them release, which leads to more ease, happiness, and freedom.

Most of the day will be spent practising silent sitting and walking meditation, with some guided meditation, dyad (pairs) meditation, and opportunities for individual meetings with the teacher.

This retreat is suitable for people who have some familiarity with mindfulness and/or insight meditation practice.

Cost: $30 + dana* early bird or $45 + dana* full price

The event cost covers a contribution to venue hire, travel costs etc, and there will be an opportunity to offer dana/donations for the teaching at the end of the workshop.

Food: Please bring your own lunch. Teas and herbal teas will be supplied.

Equipment: Chairs and sitting cushions will be provided, but please bring a shawl or blanket for warmth

*Dana

In most Buddhist traditions the teachers are not paid to teach. Instead, the teachings are given on a 'dana' basis – dana being the Pali word for generosity or giving freely. At the end of the course, participants are invited to reciprocate this generosity by offering dana to support the teacher.
