Please join us for a special breakfast fireside chat with VC Panelists Craig Blair (Airtree Ventures), Kara Frederick (Reinventure) and Paul Bassat (Square Peg Capital) as we chat with three of Australia's most prominent Venture Capitalists about the opportunities for VC in Australia.

Meet the panelists:

Craig Blair is a co-founder and managing partner at AirTree Ventures, an early and growth stage venture firm that is backing world-class entrepreneurs. Craig has been a principle in two venture capital funds for over 10 years and he has been involved in building some of the leading software businesses in Australia and the UK.

Craig’s experience includes Executive Director of netus, a Venture Fund that delivered top decile returns to investors, founding CEO & Executive Chairman of Beamly, Chairman of PetCircle and Founder/Director of Travelselect, one of the early online travel companies in the UK that successfully exited to Lastminute.com

Craig’s earlier career involved management consultancy, investment banking and civil engineering. Craig holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Sydney and an MBA from INSEAD.

Kara Frederick joined Reinventure Group as a General Partner in March 2017, working alongside founders and Managing Partners Danny Gilligan and Simon Cant. Kara is also a founder of US-Australia financial services firm, Tiger Financial Group. Having worked in New York, San Francisco and Sydney, she has extensive buy and sell-side transactional experience, including key fintech deals such as the buyout of SunGard Data Systems. She held executive roles at Goldman, Sachs & Co and has worked on total deal values exceeding USD$15 billion. Kara is a graduate of Princeton University, co-heads Princeton's Alumni Council in Australia, and resides in Sydney with her family.

Paul Bassat is a co-founder and major shareholder in Square Peg Capital which is a venture capital fund focussed on investing in early stage technology companies in Australia, Israel and South East Asia.

Paul is a director of Wesfarmers Ltd and a Commissioner of the Australian Football League (AFL). He is also on the board of Innovation and Science Australia, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, the Mount Scopus College Foundation, AFL SportsReady and the P&S Bassat Foundation. He was designated as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum in 2009.

Paul co-founded SEEK in 1997 and served as CEO and then as Joint CEO from 1997-2011. SEEK is the world’s largest online employment business and in 14 years went from a start up to one of Australia’s top 100 companies. SEEK has market leading businesses in numerous markets throughout Australasia, Asia and Latin and South America.

Paul started his career as a lawyer and practiced for 6 years. Paul holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Melbourne.
