Event description

Description

Are you passionate about sustainability and the environment in your school? Join the Inner West Sustainable Schools Network (IWSSN)!

The IWSSN is a forum for school sustainability leaders to connect, share skills and learning resources, find opportunities, and inspire ideas for growing individual and collective action.

The network is open to principals, teachers, specialists, P&Cs, volunteers and educators from all government and non-government schools, and all primary and high schools, in the Inner West Council area.

Please register if you would like to attend for catering purposes.

Topics & speakers for 2 November meeting:

  • Walk & Talk - Food Scrap Friday at Camdenville Paddock Community Garden (Lachlan Jobbins, Georgina Eldershaw): In October 2016, Camdenville established a community composting program to help families reduce their food waste in landfill, to teach children about waste, and to benefit the school and community gardens. Hear how they got going and how stage 3 students have extended Food Scrap Friday with composting of crunch & sip scraps.
  • Unwaste program (Kate Wake): The program demonstrates that whilst recycling is good, unwaste is better because it keeps things completely out of the waste stream. This leads to conversations about packaged food in lunchboxes, landfill, storm water drains, and sharing home garden crops and produce. And compost!

All Department of Education teachers receive 1 hour professional learning accreditation for attending this meeting, you just need to enrol 24 hours in advance through MyPL. The course is called Sustainability Network, code NR09055: https://myplsso.education.nsw.gov.au/q/NR09055.
