Description

Do you have questions on Victoria’s new environment protection laws and what they will mean for you? Would you like to find out about EPA’s transformation? Your input can help shape the implementation of the new legislative scheme.

EPA will be hosting a series of drop-in events to provide information and answer your questions about upcoming changes to Victoria’s environment protection laws, which are proposed to come in to effect in July 2020 as a result of the Environment Protection Amendment Act 2018. It is also an opportunity to provide input and feedback to EPA so we can better shape the implementation of the changes. The first two sessions are being held in December in Melbourne and Bendigo. Stay tuned for updates for other sessions being held around the state in early 2019.

Please note this is a drop-in sessions, so feel free to come anytime while the session is running.

Background

The changes to Victoria’s environment protection laws may have implications for you. At EPA, we’re passionate about this state staying one of the most liveable places on the planet – a place where community and industry continue to thrive.

EPA will provide the science-first advice and leadership Victorians need to prevent harm to human health and environment.

The Victorian Government’s response to the Independent Inquiry into EPA Victoria committed to a legislative overhaul of the Environment Protection Act 1970. The first phase was completed in October 2017, when the Environment Protection Act 2017 was passed by the Victorian Parliament. From 1 July 2018, this Act established EPA as an independent statutory authority and legislated a Governing Board, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Environmental Scientist. Completing the legislative overhaul, the Environment Protection Amendment Act 2018 was passed by the Victorian Parliament and received Royal Assent in August 2018.

The new legislative scheme is proposed to take effect in July 2020. These information sessions will allow attendees to have their questions answered about the Act to help Victorians prepare for 2020 and to provide advice and feedback to EPA about how we can best support you in the implementation of the new scheme.
