Event Details

The Department of Commerce is running a free information session for building and construction industry participants relating to the Construction Contracts Amendment Act 2016 and the introduction of the Western Australian Building and Construction Industry Code of Conduct 2016 (WA Code).

The session will be broken into three parts:

Amendments to the Construction Contracts Act 2004

The Construction Contracts Act 2004 provides a useful mechanism for resolving contractual payment disputes. Key changes will begin to come into effect from 15 December 2016 with the aim of creating greater flexibility for resolving payment disputes. Specifically the session will cover the key changes made by Construction Contracts Amendment Act 2016.

Introduction of the Western Australian Building and Construction Industry Code of Conduct 2016 (WA Code)

The WA Code has been developed to ensure that the conduct of building contractors engaged to perform State building work is reputable, fair, safe and carried out in a responsible manner, both in dealings with the State of Western Australia, and within the building and construction industry more generally. This session proposes to cover:

  • purpose and application of the WA Code;
  • role of the Building and Construction Code Monitoring Unit; and
  • complying with the WA Code.

Q & A Panel

A panel of officers from the Building Commission and the Building and Construction Code Monitoring Unit will be available to answer questions following both presentations.
