Description

Information Evening

The School of Cultural Creativity is excited to invite you to a casual, community conversation in the barn at ECOSS.

Since our last community meeting last winter we've grown, a lot. So, there's lots of news to fill you in about... from where we are as an organisation, to where we are going, and what we are doing to get there.

Here's a quick summary...

  • Come and Play Days: for up to 15 families with preschoolers: book out in a day or two.

  • Farm School: for up to 15 families with preschoolers: 2017 two weekly programs, 2018 four weekly programs.

  • The Tribe: for up to 23 home-schooled primary-aged children: 2017 one fortnightly program, 2018 two weekly tribes.

  • The Maxwell primary school: a waiting list of over 110 children and a 2018 anticipated opening.

Who is SoCC?

SoCC builds programs for children who need a creative approach to their education.

Do you know any? Were you one yourself?

We are a charity and community-operated organisation with:

SoCC's programs are in the Yarra Valley.

Why come to the meeting?

Many families are curious about Farm School and The Tribe, and even more are really interested in knowing just what's happening with the opening of the Maxwell primary school.

If you are:

  • a parent looking for an alternative,

  • an educator or artist or scientist looking for work,

  • a creative wanting to help us create this vision, or

  • a community member concerned or curious,

we invite you to come and chat and listen to our broader community's responce to our work.

The agenda

  • 7.30pm

Jane will begin by introducing our board and committee, then presenting what you should know about creative and democratic education, the natures of the children who benefit the most, and what those benefits are... short-term and long-term.

  • 8.00pm

The main body of our meeting will be held democratically, just as we do with the children in our programs... sitting in the round on cushions on rugs, passing a child-made talking stick to offer your ideas, share concerns, and ask all your questions. Chairs available :-)

Many questions will be answered about our organisation and especially our programs, including questions about fees, location, structure and governance, environmental impact, reporting, facility development, growth projections, accessibility, inclusion, vaccinations, enrolment processes, how we are different to Steiner or Montesorri education, class structures, curriculum, and secondary education.

  • 9.30pm

Home time! If you want to express your interest in our programs or to be on the committee or board, forms will be available for you. We'll have whole school prospectuses as well as our full project proposal available for you to take home.

Stay a few minutes longer and have a private word with Jane and the members of the SoCC crew.

See you there!

Come for a chai with a light and hot supper, meet our board and committee, speak with parents of our current programs, and bring all of your questions... from the simplest to the trickiest.
