Event description

Description

Australia’s First Peoples have significantly contributed to our country through their rich history and cultural heritage, deadly sports feats, and individual achievements. However, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to face some of the greatest injustices experienced by any group in Australia.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up an estimated 3% of Australia’s population, however they are 13 times more likely to be incarnated compared to non-Indigenous Australians. The life expectancy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is significantly lower than that of non-Indigenous Australians and despite having inhabited Australia for more than 40,000 years they still fail to be recognised in Australia’s Constitution.

Indigenous Rights Night will explore the rights of Australia’s First People. Join our panel of experts as they discuss recognition, Indigenous incarceration, the right to self-determination and what individuals can do to improve the situation in Australia.

This event is catered and there will be an opportunity to speak with the panelists and other organisations involved in advocating for Indigenous rights after the panel has concluded.
