Indigenous Business Month at UNSW - a celebration of Indigenous Ingenuity

About this Event

Join us for a celebration of Indigenous Ingenuity at a local, regional and national level

From 10.30am - 1.30pm the main UNSW walkway will come to life with a mix of unique and artisanal Indigenous stall holders bringing quality products and great buys!

Join us from 2pm - 3.30pm in the UNSW Galleries, Scientia for IBM @ UNSW Session 1* for a feast of film launches and talks by leading Indigenous entrepreneurs & trailblazers

Take part in one of the specialised workshops 3:45pm & 4:30pm to develop your skills and knowledge during IBM @ UNSW Session 2

Alternatively join in one of the yarning circles

Join us from 4.50pm - 7pm in the UNSW Galleries, Scientia for IBM @ UNSW Session 3 * for a feast of further talks, book launches and special announcements culminating in a Celebration on the Podium and Lawn with catering by Wiradjuri Chef Jo Wolles, Goanna Hut

(1) Navigating Indigenous business pathways @ UNSW

UNSW Business School strives to foster an environment where we can add real value and support to the growing trend of Indigenous people embracing and navigating business knowledge and practice to strengthen, improve and determine their lives, the lives of their families and their communities. We advocate bringing long-lasting change through creativity, responsiveness, hard work, belief, innovative thinking, practice and exchanges; building and sharing knowledge, capabilities, networks and experiences.We offer a variety of programs to welcome and support Indigenous students. Whether still in high school or developing your career, our programs will strengthen your innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and leadership skillsIn this workshop you'll meet with UNSW Indigenous business students and alumni who share insights from their own lived experiences navigating their studies, career opportunities ++

(2) IP Business & the Law Terri Janke and Company

Terri Janke and Company will discuss Business and the Law. This will provide tools that will help you start your own business and be your own boss. Discussion will include how to set up your business, how to protect your business through Copyright and Trademarks and Managing IP in business

(3) Design Making with Gregory Davis UNSW Founders

This workshop is for Indigenous Community members interested in learning about state-of-the-art rapid prototyping techniques like 3D printing, Laser Cutting and Waterjet cutting. This workshop is located at UNSW Founders and IBM Volunteers will meet you in the foyer of Scientia after session one and take you to the workshop

Jilbamun Juwan (Our Journey): Indigenous Rights and the UN Sustainable Development Goals in action

This introductory workshop provides tools and resources to align Sustainable Development Goals with The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to unlock the potential of Indigenous business and supply chains in a 12 trillion dollar economy.

(5) Free Tax Skills Workshop

Our free and confidential Tax Skills Workshop will focus on your legal rights and help you navigate the tax system. Get ‘tax tips’ from academics and student volunteers around your tax rights and lodgement obligations, and hear how the UNSW Tax Clinic’s registered tax agents can help you.
