Description

IN UTERO - Special Screening and Audience Discussion with Dr Jeanne Magagna (Doors open 6pm)

IN UTERO, a film written and directed by Kathleen Man Gyllenhaal, takes viewers on a ‘cinematic rumination about life in the womb and its lasting impact on human development, human behaviour, and the state of the world.’

The movie is a revealing and sometimes confronting exposé on the importance of the foetal environment and its contribution toward our later life, personality and psychological functioning.

“It brings together convincing data that explains why some of us face challenges from the start while others thrive. Foetal origins experts, research scientists, psychologists, doctors and midwives – as well as examples from popular culture and mythology – collectively demonstrate how our experiences in utero shape our future” (How we Begin, Is Who We Become, IN UTERO Discussion Guide).

This open screening welcomes both professionals from the infant mental health field and members of the general public. Given the sensitivity of this important topic, and to generate a sense of shared community understanding, group attendance with friends, family or colleagues is warmly encouraged.

Post viewing discussion will be facilitated by Dr Jeanne Magagna who has used the film in her teachings. Dr Magagna is a renowned international guest speaker, author, educator and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. She is qualified in Child, Adult and Family Psychotherapy (Doctorate in Psychotherapy - University of East London & Tavistock Clinic). For over two decades, Dr Magagna was Head of Psychotherapy Services at London, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. She has been proudly brought to Western Australia for a series of events with the Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy of Western Australia (APPWA).

After the event, a number of community agencies will have information on local support services available for interested members of the audience.

DOORS TO THEATRE WILL OPEN AT 6.00PM.

PLEASE ARRIVE PROMPTLY.
