Event description
A live-streamed discussion, with audience Q&A, about the impact of portfolio committees in Queensland.

About this event

Queensland Parliament has a unique portfolio committee system. We are celebrating its 10 year anniversary with a deep dive into why committees exist and the important role they play in the democratic process. Join former and current Members of Parliament, including Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the Honourable Curtis Pitt MP, for a discussion about the role committees play in Queensland’s democratic process, why they are important and the impact of engaging with the public. The session will be an opportunity to ask questions in a virtual Q&A (via the live Facebook stream) about our portfolio committee system.

Panel members are:

  • Hon Curtis Pitt MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly
  • Hon Judy Spence, former Member for Mount Gravatt and Sunnybank and Chair of the Review of the Parliamentary Committee System Committee in 2010
  • Hon Lawrence Springborg, former Member for Carnarvon, Warwick and Southern Downs, and Deputy Chair of the Review of the Parliamentary Committee System Committee in 2010
  • Mr Tim Nicholls MP, Member for Clayfield
  • Ms Sandy Bolton, MP, Member for Noosa

Mr Neil Laurie, Clerk of the Parliament, will moderate the discussion.
