In The Flesh - Exhibition Opening Night
Event Information
About this Event
The exhibition centres around a collaborative photography project and showcases three generations of artists from the same family who have created work throughout isolation.
The exhibition is made up of 4 key projects:
Disposable
20 disposable cameras were sent out to participants, who were asked to document their time in their varied "lockdowns". Two photographs were chosen from each reel for the exhibition. The stories vary from melancholy to hopeful, and provide an evocative glimpse into a diverse group of lives.
Projected Stories
Two young filmmakers, Alicia and Archie, document a collection of stories from lockdown, told from the front porches of Melbourne. To be screened on loop throughout the exhibition.
Paste-Up
A “paste-up” poster of a postcode-based photography project by photographer, Mark Chew, during the 5km-limit lockdown.
Artwork by Judith Chew
Judith Chew describes her life as mostly being spent in the company of men. Over lockdown however she found herself, much to her surprise, depicting women and femininity. Whether it is brilliantly adorned, dead eyed manikins or colourful, falling women Judith’s oil paintings reveal the artists frame of mind throughout lockdown.
The event is being held in a property owned by Pace Development Group who have come on as a sponsor for the event. The company is interested in working with artists to promote local work and have generously allowed us to use this space.
Local business and event sponsor SMXL has kindly donated all of the printing of the images for free.
The event will also feature food and drinks, live music and spoken word performances.
Young Henrys has kindly come on as our official beer sponsor for the event, the lovely people at Minimum Wines are helping the event as our official wine sponsor and our delicious treats will be from the prolific team at the Melbourne Farmers Market.
