About the event

Join Curator Kellee Uhr in conversation with exhibiting artists Pru Morrison and Sharon Muir as they explore how shared studio spaces influence the creative process.

Pru and Sharon share a studio at Brisbane City Council and Metro Arts Norman Park Substation No.9. Full of ceramic delights, works in process, and tools the studio tells a story of two artists who have developed their individual practices whilst fostering a friendship and supporter in each other.

About the speakers

Pru Morrison

Pru Morrison’s ceramic art provokes an open-ended dialogue about everyday life in Australia.

Pru is an artist who practices etching, painting and drawing – artistic expressions that all exert some influence over her ceramics. Her pieces are made by layering different coloured clay slips in the terra sigillata style before scratching through the strata to create an image on the surface of the clay body.

Pru’s major solo exhibition Yesterday’s Favourite is at Artisan from 16 June – 28 July 2018.

Sharon Muir

Sharon Muir is a ceramic artist that has exhibited her ceramic sculpture both nationally and internationally. She studied ceramics at RMIT and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Fine Art with Distinction.

From her studio she creates a range of homewares that exploit her skills in modelling and mould making and builds her ceramic collage sculpture pieces. Her current practice involves the selection of pre-existing mass produced ceramic objects and incorporating them into unique hand built forms to produce a new object. By using these objects in different ways she aims to highlight ideas about use, re-use, and the decorative and how an objects function and meaning can be manipulated. Sharon’s solo exhibition Scenes for Hearts and Flowers is at Artisan from 16 June – 28 July 2018.
