About this event

The Australian government spent approximately $21.5 billion on aged care in 2019-20. Despite spending more each year, the quality of aged care hasn't improved in Australia.

The 2021 Final Report of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety found that previous aged care reforms failed to meet the needs of older citizens. Our research also suggests that markets have failed to work effectively and having more private providers increases prices but not the quality of care.

This roundtable will bring together academics, policymakers and practitioners to discuss aged care organisation, financing and market failures, with a view to inform how aged care could be improved.
