For example, a social worker working in mental health at Austin Health. Staff from MHCSSs, ACCHOs, AOD or other partner organisations may also attend. Please note, if you do register for this event and it is not clear you are part of the intended audience, your registration will be confirmed two weeks prior to the event start date, or earlier.

IMHA has a Senior Consumer Consultant that has been involved in the development of this training – the training has also been produced in consultation from IMHA’s Speaking From Experience (SFE) - consumer advisory group.

NOTE: Participants must complete the IMHA SDM eLearning Module hosted on CMHL LMS prior to the online workshop https://www.cmhl.scodle.com/player/#course=7902699b

This event will cover:

  • Understanding and increased knowledge of supported decision making in a mental health context, including using Supported Decision Making mechanisms under the Mental Health Act 2014
  • An understanding of how to put supported decision making into practice through interactive activities.
  • An understanding of some of the benefits of supported decision making for consumers and clinicians

The training incorporates practical scenarios and small group work.

Facilitator:

IMHA – Independent Mental Health Advocacy is a free, confidential and independent service.

IMHA is a state-wide advocacy service and is one of a range of mechanisms established to achieve the supported decision-making objectives of the Mental Health Act 2014 (Vic).

IMHA supports people who are receiving, or at risk of receiving, compulsory mental health treatment to make, and be involved in, decisions about their mental health assessment, treatment and recovery.

Advocates are always guided by what the person wants, rather than what may be considered by others to be in their best interests. Advocates do not take action without a person’s consent.
