Event description

Description

The Indigenous Marathon Foundation, Travelling Fit and the Australian Consulate in New York invite everyone to join in a supporters' run on Friday 3 November, 7:30am!

The easy 5km run is a social event to loosen the legs before the big race on Sunday. It's also the final opportunity to meet Deek and the inspirational 2017 Indigenous Marathon Project (IMP) squad and hear their incredible stories; from having no running experience in May of this year, to training for the New York City Marathon.

It has been a transformative six months for the squad of 12 (six men and six women aged 18-30) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island men and women from Australia's regional, remote and city Indigenous communities. For many it is their first international trip; for all, New York will be home to their first marathon.

Members of the squad have overcome some of life's toughest challenges, to emerge as inspirational community heroes committed to using running to drive change and encourage active healthy lifestyles.

Join this special event and meet at Le Parker Meridien Hotel before heading out to Central Park.

We look forward to introducing you to some of the most remarkable individuals who will leave you inspired, determined and proud; and likely put an extra spring in your step ahead of Sunday's big event!
