Insights & Opportunities for 2019 – What will next year bring us?

Again in 2018 we have seen the pace of change seemingly accelerate at great speed than ever before. Advancement in technology such as software automation, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and social connectedness have driven new ways of doing business and working.

And, the challenges people face are accelerating, particularly the ability to sustain learning and development to remain relevant for today and ready for the future. We see graduates leaving university with degrees that are obsolete and skills that are outdated. Leadership styles and methods still being taught are no longer working, and ‘competency’ in technical roles is a sign of imminent extinction.

So what must the Learning and Development (L&D) professional community do about this? What insights and opportunities do we see that we can bring to help our organisations and community to embrace the future?

For the Final ILP On the Learning Couch in Melbourne, we will be exploring …

Insight & Opportunities for 2019 – What will next year bring us?

Featuring insights from leading digital learning specialists, future focused leaders and thinkers, as well as drawing on the experience of participants we’ll look at the opportunities coming our way as we throw open the discussion on subjects like:

Making Learning Accessible to Everyone
Accessibility of learning is a key consideration to ensure you realise the full potential of your initiatives. But what is an accessible user and how do you cater to them? We'll discuss this topic with a view to break down the prevalent "us and them" attitudes and look at how accessible design benefits everyone.

Creating Engagement for Digital Learning
"I can't wait to do that compliance eLearning" said no one ever. So how do we go about raising the profile of eLearning with staff and boosting engagement? By moving away from "event" based solutions and focusing on the individual's needs you can boost engagement with digital learning.

Performance and Outcome Based L&D
The goal for an effective L&D function is not to create eLearning or training, but to deliver business outcomes. By taking a performance and outcome-focused approach to learning initiatives, you can deliver more lean and effective learning solutions that drive real change, rather than just checking a completion record.

Learning & Development Metrics and Reporting

We MUST move beyond ‘happy sheets’ to provide real understanding of the impact L&D activity. Performance and outcome based L&D is one way, but how else might this be done. Dr W Edwards Deming once said: ‘If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it; and if you can’t manage it, you can’t improve it.’ So how do we measure, manage, and improve in a world of micro learning, online and blended programs, Google, and rapidly changing needs in every area?

Artificial Intelligence and Its Impact on L&D

We’re hearing a lot about AI these days. Doctors are using handheld devices connected to IBM Watson (think Start Trek tricorders) to collaboratively undertake patient diagnostics in a fraction of the time it once took, with significantly higher accuracy rates. Big Data and Blockchain make analysis on ‘anything’ unbelievably fast and accurate. So how will L&D professional embrace these opportunities in the next year? This is a conversational event that we could easily run over many days, even weeks, but we’ll start with just a couple of hours at our final ILP Melbourne event for 2018.

This will also be an opportunity to celebrate an amazing year for L&D, and for is to Thankyou for your continued support of ILP.

So join us, and bring along your colleagues, L&D clients and manager, HR directors, and anyone open to embracing an exciting future, and who believes as we do that L&D professionals have a role to play in it.

This event is free and will be catered. So we please only register if plan to attend. We know that life can happen, so if you can’t attend after you’ve registered, just let us know in advance.

Hosted by Bill Jarrard, recipient of the 2018 ILP Lifetime Achievement Award, and Jennifer Goddard.
