Event description

Description

This two-part workshop will give you an opportunity to work with solar plates (3 x A5) to develop a number of images for printing onto a natural textile that will form the basis for your lampshade.

We have allowed space between the two sessions to enable your prints to dry and give you time to embellish the textile surface if so desired. At the second session (21 October) Anna will take you through the process of assembling your lampshade so you have a bespoke artwork that can be added to a lamp base or used as a hanging light.

Before attending the first session (1 October) with Cheryl you will need to do some preparation to ensure you are able to participate fully at the workshop.

What you need to do:

1. Identify historical family photos (e.g. of events or gatherings or images that help to tell a story of your family or someone special);

2. Arrange the images on the scanner onto A4 size;

3. Scan your images onto your computer and save to a USB that you can take to Officeworks or Copy Shop to have printed onto overhead projector film (Xerox Premium Transparencies) as a grey scale (i.e. black & white).

4. These grey scale transparencies will form the basis of your prints. The images you decide to use will be exposed onto a photopolymer plate that you will be able to print from. Please refer to attachment with images to guide you.

You will be able to print the photopolymer plates images onto printing paper as well as natural textile fabric for making your lampshade. It will allow you to tell your own unique story about an individual, your family, a group occasion or significant event.

What will be supplied:

  • Instructions for photopolymer plates
