Event description

Description

Employers have an obligation to accommodate ill and injured workers in the workplace. These workers have some of the strongest and broadest legislative protections. Navigating these can be difficult for even the most seasoned HR/ER managers.

Our interactive, full day workshop will overview the key areas of risk and explore practical strategies for managing these when assessing fitness for work, facilitating and managing a return to work and when termination of employment is necessary.

At the end of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and explain the main sources of legislative protection for ill and injured workers, including work health and safety and privacy
  • Describe the areas where claims are most likely to be made, including adverse action, bullying, discrimination and unfair dismissal
  • Develop strategies to managing and reducing absenteeism
  • Undertake processes to assess fitness for work
  • Facilitate and manage the return to work of ill and injured workers, including those with partial incapacity
  • Differentiate between work and non-work related illnesses and injuries
  • Minimise risks when terminating employment of ill and injured workers
