Ikebana: an introduction with Dr Shoso Shimbo – Ikebana Artist & Sculptor
Event Information
About this event
Join Dr Shoso Shimbo – Ikebana Artist and sculptor – in this ikebana workshop for beginners. Hear about the history of Ikebana and be guided through the practice of making your own ikebana arrangement.
This class, in the beautiful surrounds of Villa Alba, could be the start of your ikebana journey – a healing art that encourages us to find a way to live harmoniously with the natural environment.
Villa Alba – Melbourne’s unique painted villa – was decorated in the 1880’s, drawing inspiration from the British Aesthetic Movement. Part of this movement was a fascination with the art and design of Japan – a strong influence on fine and decorative arts at the time.
Included: tea/coffee on arrival, workshop with Dr Shoso Shimbo and a highlights tour of Villa Alba after the workshop. Please bring: A simple container, a few flowers/foliage stems, snips/secateurs (a materials list will be provided on booking)
Please note the Covid entry requirements on our Events page.
This event is part of the Flowers at Villa Alba program and is generously supported by the City of Boroondara. Villa Alba’s unique heritage listed interiors have inspired this program.
