Description

The Identify, Capture & Use – Numbering & Barcoding in Healthcare session is designed to educate Australian healthcare organisations in the use of the GS1 System to resolve real business problems, assure compliance and improve their supply chain management within their companies and with their trading partners.

The session provides fundamental information on the practical application of the GS1 standards for all healthcare trade items: pharmaceutical, medical devices and consumables, for all levels of packaging across both retail and non-retail environments. The training will deliver industry knowledge, meeting the needs of unique product identification, selecting appropriate capturing technologies and enabling greater use of sharing data between trading partners to achieve greater accuracy, patient safety and traceability.

This half-day course will highlight the use of unique identifiers such as the GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), the GLN (Global Location Number), the SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Code) and other key identifiers. Encoding additional attribute data such as Use-By-Dates, Batch-Numbers and Serial-Numbers will further enable traceability through the supply chain. Data is appropriately captured using symbols such as the GS1-128 barcode or the GS1 DataMatrix, in the context of industry requirements.

The training will also feature an outline of the NPC (National Product Catalogue) for data synchronisation and EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for business transactions that enhance data quality for all trading partners involved.

The benefits of this course are:

  • Healthcare focused, essential knowledge for all trading partners
  • Using GS1 System tools to empower simplicity, accuracy and compliance
  • Simple, easy to understand language, unpacking the complexities of the industry
  • Understanding the traceability journey
  • Current industry ‘hot’ topics
  • Appreciate the importance of data quality and accurate record keeping
  • Troubleshooting common problems and debunking ‘myths’
