icare would like to invite you to attend our Workers Insurance Forum in Penrith on Thursday 24 September 2020.

Join us to hear from our experts and meet with key contacts.

The purpose of this event is to:

  • Learn about Workers Insurance Policy Fundamentals, including Industry Classification, Definition of a Contractor and Cross Border Workers, Premium Discounts and Incentives, Premium Calculation and Case Study scenarios
  • Give practical advice on influencing culture at work to improve safety performance & injury prevention
  • Provide information on Healthcare Practitioner engagement as well as how you can more effectively communicate with GP's
  • Hear from Special Guest Speaker Ben Houlison - Paralympian rower speaking about overcoming adversity following workplace injury

Agenda on the day will include:

Understanding Worker’s Insurance Premiums, Pricing & Policy Obligations

Targeted at employers with Basic/Intermediate knowledge. In this session you will learn about Workers Insurance Policy Fundamentals, including Industry Classification, Definition of a Contractor and Cross Border Workers, Premium Discounts and Incentives, Premium Calculation and Case Study scenarios. We will also provide the latest updates from icare’s policy team

Presented by David Huxley – icare Relationship Manager

David joined icare in 2018 and works across northern NSW connecting businesses with workers compensation information and education.

He is passionate about assisting employers with their workers’ insurance obligations and supporting businesses to promote safe and healthy workplaces, with a focus on reducing insurance premiums through sustainable return to work.


Effective Communication with GP’s to improve Return to Work Outcomes

In this practical session you will hear from the Health Engagement team about how you can more effectively communicate with GPs. GPs play a crucial role in certifying fitness for work and setting the expectations around recovery.

Communication between employer and doctor is also crucial to ensure the best return to work outcomes occur.

Presented by Matthew Gordon & Rebecca Mcintyre – icare Healthcare Engagement Team

Matthew Gordon holds qualifications in exercise and health science and spent five years working with a leading insurance company in injury management and case management.

In his role as Health Engagement Specialist, Matthew focuses on awareness and education on the NSW workers compensation system with the healthcare industry including General Practitioners and allied health professionals.

Matthew joined icare in 2017 as a Relationship Manager working with large clients before joining the Healthcare Engagement Team in late 2018.

Rebecca McIntyre has over 25 years experience as a health professional both as a registered nurse and in practice management. Specialising in Orthopaedics, Rebecca managed a specialist orthopaedic practice for 7 years giving her great insights into the challenges faced by many practices working within the workers compensation schemes.

Rebecca has a keen interest in research having worked for both the George institute and the Ingham institutes looks forward to continuing to work on projects aimed at improving icare’s ability to better serve our customers to receiving the right treatment at the time.

Rebecca joined the Medical Office Engagement team in February 2017.

Influencing culture at work to improve performance

Every business has a safety culture, whether you are aware of it or not. Understanding your unique culture and working with it to improve health and safety is a key aspect of preventing injuries at work.

This practical session will get you thinking about your own culture and injury prevention plan.


Presented by Karen Glover & Suzanne Adams – icare Injury Prevention Specialists

Karen Glover joined icare’s Injury Prevention team in 2019 after more than 17 years as a risk, safety and workers compensation manager in public and private sectors.

She has worked across Australia and New Zealand with many industries and different risk types; including construction, engineering, government, healthcare and community services, labour hire, manufacturing, and warehousing and logistics. As an experienced people leader, Karen is passionate about partnering with businesses to develop and implement practical solutions that improve safety performance and prevent injuries.

Suzanne Adams joined icare’s Injury Prevention team in 2018 after more than 15 years in working with occupational rehabilitation, workers compensation and safety in the private sector.

She has worked across Australia in the retail , facilities management, banking and property services industries. Suzanne is passionate about helping businesses prevent injuries within their business.

Special Guest Speaker – Ben Houlison

Paralympian rower speaking about overcoming adversity following workplace injury

Ben is an inspirational father, husband, farmer & business owner, where he helps workplaces establish safety systems.

Ben is also a champion adaptive rower where he represented Australia and won a bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships in Poland.

Work in the Manufacturing Industry?

Following the Workers Insurance Forum at 3pm, join Clint McCulloch from icare’s Industry Engagement Team for an interactive 1 hour session targeted at those employers in the Manufacturing industry.

During this interactive session, you will be provided with an overview of industry statistics specific to the Manufacturing Industry within the Penrith region. We will also take a look workers insurance management for business, highlight the key challenges that business face and identify potential solutions
