icare would like to invite you to attend our Workers Insurance Forum in Mascot on Wednesday 11 March 2020.

Join us to hear from our experts and meet with key contacts.

The purpose of this event is to:

  • Hear about effective Return to Work stakeholder communication, promotion of early intervention and the benefits of maintaining social connection
  • Provide proactive tips and strategies when responding to and managing psychological injury claims
  • Give practical advice on influencing culture at work to improve safety performance & injury prevention
  • Hear from Special Guest Speaker Grace McKeon – Accredited Exercise Physiologist, as she shares the latest research in the field and strategies to implement in the workplace.

Maximising Return to Work Outcomes

Targeted at employers with Basic/Intermediate Return to Work (RTW) knowledge. During this interactive session, you’ll hear about effective RTW stakeholder communication, promotion of early intervention and the benefits of maintaining social connection.

Presented by Adam O'Leary – icare Relationship Manager

Adam O'Leary has over 28 years experience in the workers compensation industry. He has worked as a case manager and held senior management roles at large insurance companies and rehabilitation providers.

Adam is passionate about supporting businesses to promote safe and healthy workplaces, including harnessing the health benefits of good work for their employees returning from injury.


Adam joined icare in 2018 as a Regional Relationship Manager. Working across Sydney and the south of NSW, Adam connects businesses with the information they need, and delivers education on topics our customers have identified for their regions.


Responding to Psychological Injury Claims - Implementing best practice

In this practical session you will hear proactive tips and strategies for Employers responding to and managing psychological injury claims during the initial intervention phase and when determining liability. This session will provide you with tools to improve worker engagement and support early and sustained return to work.

Presented by Jade Alexander – icare Mental Health Leader

Jade joined icare in early 2018 as Mental Health Leader. She manages the strategic and operational management of all primary psychological injury claims and secondary psychological injury claims once a physical injury has resolved. Her team of mental health and technical specialists work closely with Agents to provide clinical and technical support on specialised mental health claims.

Jade started her career as a trauma counsellor working with sex workers who had experienced violence at work. It was during this time that she developed an interest in human rights, social justice and the biopsychosocial impacts of trauma. Over the last 14 years Jade has worked as an interpersonal violence counsellor and specialist consultant with NSW Police Detectives, The Department of Defence, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and numerous health and tertiary organisations.


Influencing culture at work to improve performance

Every business has a safety culture, whether you are aware of it or not. Understanding your unique culture and working with it to improve health and safety is a key aspect of preventing injuries at work.

This practical session will get you thinking about your own culture and injury prevention plan.

Presented by Andrew Davies – icare Injury Prevention Specialist

Andrew Davies has 17 years’ experience across a variety of roles within Workers Insurance. Working within and alongside claims management, customer account management and risk management, he has an in depth understanding of the importance of safety across organisations at all levels.


Prior to his current role at icare, Andrew owned his own gardening business. Working outdoors and experiencing the physical and mental aspects of running a business has provided Andrew with a deep insight and appreciation for business owners and their daily operational demands.


Special Guest Speaker – Grace McKeon

Grace is an accredited exercise physiologist who has done extensive research into the role of exercise in mental and physical health. Grace will share the latest research in the field and strategies to implement in the workplace.

Presented by Grace McKeon - Exercise Physiologist, Black Dog Institute

Grace McKeon is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and current PhD candidate within the school of psychiatry at the University of New South Wales. She has done extensive research into the relationship between physical activity and mental health. In particular, the role of exercise to improve the mental and physical health of emergency service workers experiencing psychological distress including post-traumatic stress disorder. She is interested in investigating how we can use digital technologies and social media to deliver novel lifestyle interventions.

Grace also works clinically and is leading the new exercise physiology clinic at the Black Dog Institute. She has managed the set-up of the clinic and implemented a program to help people with mental illness engage in regular exercise as part of their treatment.


Work in the Transport & Storage Industry?

Following the Workers Insurance Forum at 3pm, join Michelle Harrison and Dana Currie from icare’s Industry Engagement Team for an interactive 1 hour session targeted at those employers in the Transport and Storage industry.

During this interactive session, you will be provided with an overview of the industry model and statistics specific to Transport and Storage within the Mascot region. We will discuss challenges these specific industries face with workers insurance and explore potential solutions. We will cover key steps in the life cycle of claims management.
