Event description

Description

Bush Fires have destroyed over 100,000 km2 of land across the world in under 10 years

91 people lost their lives in the recent Bush fires that ravaged through 70km2 of Greece. The majority of these lives were lost due to lack of preperation and communication by the Government with the people.

8 people lost their lives in California when Wild Fires scorched over 800km2 of land. The largest recorded fire this decade was the 2014 Northwest Territories fires in Canada burning through 34,000 km2, however there were no reported deaths.

Commit to the cause. Push for change.

Mitigating natural disasters is one of the world’s greatest challenges. The past decade has been one of the worst periods for natural disasters and while weather events may be inevitable they don’t have to become so catastrophic.

That’s why we’re launching IBM Call for Code, a worldwide, multi-year initiative that inspires developers to solve pressing global problems with sustainable software solutions.

Create applications that improve disaster preparedness, build resilient communities, and safeguard the health and well-being of individuals and institutions.

Mission to establish Adelaide Team

I am looking to form a team in Adelaide to donate their time to brainstorm some ideas using the IBM Cloud Platform.

TECHNOLOGY AREAS

The most impactful project will be implemented with the help of IBM, The Linux Foundation, UN Human Rights, and American Red Cross.

Winners will be announced at the Call for Code Global Prize Event and Concert, which will benefit UN Human Rights and the American Red Cross, and be held on October 29th at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.

Technologies

Individuals or teams are encouraged to start from a library of IBM Code Patterns – open source roadmaps for solving complex programming challenges – that demonstrate how to use Weather Company, Watson AI, and Blockchain services on the IBM Cloud to build cognitive, social, and analytics applications.

You can use IBM Code Patterns for inspiration to kickstart your solutions or build your idea upon other services provided by the IBM Cloud (many based on open source technologies).

There are IBM Code Patterns for each of six suggested technical solution areas to explore when building your submission for the 2018 Call for Code Challenge. Your submission does not have to fit into one of these areas, but they can inspire what you build:

Bringing together infrastructure and platform services, IBM Cloud is home to 130+ unique services with millions of running applications. Including offerings like IBM Watson, VMWare servers, and Weather Company data and platforms built on Kubernetes, Apache OpenWhisk, Cloud Foundry, and more. To be eligible for the Call for Code Global Award, developers will be required to use IBM Cloud services in their solutions.
