Event description

Description

Connecting with place and local initiatives to improve Aboriginal Heritage protection

When: July 9 from 10:30 – 3:00 pm

Tentative agenda:

  • Welcome to Country
  • Panel discussion on Connecting with place and local initiatives to improve Aboriginal Heritage protection
  • Lunch and informal discussion
  • Break-out discussions stemming from the morning’s panel and other pressing issues raised by study group members.

Current panellists include: Rodney Dillon an Aboriginal leader, rights advocate, and chairman of Tasmania’s Aboriginal Heritage Council; Rob Anders; from the University of Tasmania who was involved in the development of Tebrakunna Visitors’ Centre and whose research interests are focused on ‘digitising Country’; and, Greg Lehman; keynote speaker at the conference, also a member of Tasmania’s Aboriginal Heritage Council and whose interests include cultural fire management and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Who for?

Those attending the IAG conference and who have an interest in Indigenous communities, environmental rights and cultural resurgence will be the main beneficiaries. This should not be seen as something limited to ‘Indigenous geographers.’

Cost

This event is free.
