The International Association of Emergency Managers - Oceania Council (IAEM), in collaboration with the Business Continuity Institute (Australasia) Chapter (BCI), warmly invites members and interested non-members to attend our combined dinner forum from 6.00pm Tuesday 25th July 2017 at the West Adelaide Football Club.

IAEM and BCI are keen to explore the links between emergency management and business continuity using contemporary and relevant discussion topics. Using the Extreme Weather Event experienced by South Australia in September 2016, the presentation by Malcolm Jackman, Chief Executive of the SA Fire and Emergency Services Commission, will discuss six key areas and associated recommendations from the the Burns Report into this Event that has in our view a major impact on Emergency Management and Business Continuity.

Key areas for discussion include:

  • Dam Safety

  • Resilience (72 hr model)

  • Control Facilities Review

  • Business Continuity Plans

  • Mobile Redundancy

  • Emergency Staffing Capability


Key Timings

6.00pm for 6:30pm - Arrive and order dinner/ drinks (Dinner/drinks at own cost)

6:30pm - Seated and final dinner orders

6:30pm to 7:30pm - Presentation by Malcolm Jackman

7:30pm - Dinner served and networking

Meals will be available to order from 6.00pm, ranging in price from $14 to $28 (at own cost). Gluten and Vegan menu available.

Full bar facilities will be available throughout the night.

Car parking is located to the rear of the clubrooms. The entrance to the Sturt Pea Dining Room is via the Club Lounge.


About Malcolm

In July 2015, Malcolm commenced as the Chief Executive of the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM). He is tasked with providing strategic leadership and direction for all emergency services across SA including Metropolitan and Country Fire Services (MFS, CFS), State Emergency Service (SES) and Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR). He has direct responsibility and accountability for championing and leading the Emergency Services sector, the reform agenda, and the change management process.

Born and educated in New Zealand, Malcolm has a BSc in Pure Mathematics and a BCom in Accounting from Auckland University. He spent his early career as an officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander, before joining the staffing services and recruitment industry in 1984. He worked in a variety of senior roles in New Zealand, Australia and North America as well as spending time in Asia and Europe. From 1996 he was CEO of Manpower Australia and New Zealand. Malcolm has also been the CEO of Coates Hire (from 2003) and Elders Limited (2008), and most recently, the Chief Executive of Defence SA (2014).
