The Purpose /

Australia is in the early stages of developing a social entrepreneurship culture and this conference and boot camp is an effort to accelerate that development at a critical time in Australia’s economic realignment.

The Outcome /

Activation of a new generation of entrepreneurs and investors prepared to address local, national and international societal challenges.

Why iAccelerate and the University of Wollongong /

iAccelerate is a new, dedicated regional entrepreneurial incubator and accelerator facility with over 50 current residents run by the University of Wollongong. It aims to create a new generation of businesses that helps address local and global issues and create opportunities.

The University is well placed to play an active role in social enterprise. Its Global Challenges Program is a strategic research initiative that is focused on transformative interdisciplinary research that touches people’s lives and changes worlds.

Prof Joe Steensma / Washington University / St Louis

Professor of Practice in Environmental Health and Social Entrepreneurship

Prior to his academic career, Joe was active in business and public affairs. He founded Industrial Solutions Group (ISG), which grew to become one of the premier occupational and environmental health companies in the US. Joe specialises in social entrepreneurism, environmental / occupational health, and biostatistics. He is passionate about sustainability and the role enterprise plays in advancing societies.

Mikaela Jade / Founder and Managing Director, InDigital

United Nations Permanent Forum Indigenous Issues Delegate

Mikaela’s company InDigital works to develop innovative new ways to digitise and translate knowledge and culture. Indigital Storytelling uses drones, 4D mapping, image recognition and cultural law to bring cultural sites alive. She is a Tribal Link Alumni member (New York), Professional Associate of the University of Canberra and Fellow of the Australian Rural Leadership Program.

William Rosenzweig / Haas School of Business / University of California Berkeley

Social Entrepreneur / Impact Investor / Change Maker

William Rosenzweig has spent his career as an entrepreneur, educator and venture investor. Will was founding CEO of The Republic of Tea, the company that started a tea revolution and created the premium tea category in the US. Whilst at the University of California Berkeley, Will developed the country’s first MBA courses in Social Entrepreneurship and Social Venture Development.

Aly Khalifa / North Carolina State University

Design and Engineering Innovator / Entrepreneur focused on Social Impact

Aly is the Institute for Non-profits' Social Entrepreneur-in-Residence. He is a design entrepreneur specialising in invention development. He has launched products for some of the most exciting consumer brands and has garnered more than 2 dozen patents. Aly and his wife Beth created SPARKcon, which is the US’s largest open-source creative festival, attracting 75,000 attendees annually.

Mara Bun / Non Executive Director / Enova Community Energy

Director / Moderator / Advisor

Mara is a Company Director, moderator, and advisor to companies, governments, and research agencies who seek to advance collaborative initiatives. Raised in Brazil, educated in the US, and calling Australia home for 25 years, her diverse executive career has spanned finance, non-profit and consulting.
