For over ten years Marguerita worked as a Clinical Educator in ICU, Simulation and Acute Care settings. She has strong knowledge and skills in the areas of Vascular Access and Counterpulsation, and is an advocate for improving patient outcomes through evidence based clinical practice. This combined with Marguerita's extensive critical care experience ensures that she facilitates engaging clinical learning opportunities for all.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Describe the key principles of IABP therapy
  • Apply key principles to determine applications and contraindications
  • Prepare and simulate insertion of an IAB catheter
  • Demonstrate IABP set-up and start-up
  • Demonstrate the use of IABP triggers
  • Identify arterial waveform changes and relate to key principles
  • Demonstrate the impact of IABP timing
  • Use the balloon pressure waveform to troubleshoot IABP alarms
  • Demonstrate weaning and removal of IAB catheter
