Description
I-DAY is the International Day of People with Disability. This year’s theme is empowering people with disability and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.
Curated by local visual artist Daniel Savage, in collaboration with Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres and Ausdance ACT, this one-day conference will involve performances, presentations, workshop, panel discussion and networking for artists and arts workers.
This event is targeted specifically to those connected to arts practice including independent artists, arts organisations, and arts workers in the ACT arts sector. The event will be open to all artists, arts workers and ACT arts sector organisations and their connected communities for people with and without disability to participate.
We recommend attending all the sessions if possible to maximise your experience of this event.

PROGRAM
Session 1: 12:00 pm – 2.30 pm
Welcome, Performance and Panel Discussion
Witness performances that will knock your socks off, from the extraordinary Hanna Cormick, the enchanting Liz Lea and Katie Senior, and the celebratory work of Black Mountain School.
Led by Daniel Savage, with invited panel members Imogen Yang, Liz Lea and Adelaide Rief, Culture Change: embedding access for sustainable change will be a lively discussion on what the arts sector could do better to fully realise a culture of access and inclusion in arts practice and programming.

Session 2: 2:30 pm – 5.30 pm
Workshop
Led by professional audio describer Imogen Yang, this workshop will give participants an opportunity to experience audio description informed theory and practice that will lead to discussion about different ways of thinking about creating arts experiences that are truly inclusive. Suitable for arts workers, artists and arts programmers.
Session 3: 5.30 pm – 7.30 pm (open to public)
Drinks and showcase
MCed by Daniel Savage, with screenings of exceptional art works as examples of best practice in access and inclusion- including films from Back to Back Theatre (internationally renowned Australian theatre company) and performances from local dance groups curated by Liz Lea and Ausdance ACT involving CDT Teens, Extreme Stars, the Dream Team and 'A Stroke of Luck' by Gretel Burgess..
