Description

Tasmanian communities supporting trans and gender diverse young people and their families: A forum on pathways (social, medical, educational, legal, etc) for community members, allies, educators, medical and health practitioners, and students.

Registration: 9:15am followed by acknowledgements, international guest speakers from gendered intelligence speaking about their partnership with The Tavistock Center (UK); work in schools; and art based projects exploring science and gender. The Australian and Tasmanian contexts: research, acts and guidelines. The day will end with a panel discussion which involves service providers and community members as well as a Q&A. CATERED EVENT

Key learning objective: The centrality of collaboration between service providers and community members to ensure best practices and minimisation of harm in supporting trans young people and their families.

Learning outcomes include:

*Insights and awareness about international best practices.

*The use of creative methodologies to engage wider community conversations about gender.

*An awareness of the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Act and the stated inclusion of sexuality, gender and bodies as protected attributes.

*An understanding of Department of Education guidelines and support.

*The development of insights and understandings about innovations in school practices across the state.

*An awareness about medical and social pathways and their limitations - from the perspectives of families and young people, medical and community service practitioners.

*An awareness of a young person's experiences in relation to their gender journey.
