The University of Queensland and HYPE Sports Innovation have teamed up to deliver the UQ HYPE Sportstech Accelerator Program, a global startup accelerator that offers a sports-specific program providing access to global mentors, investors and experienced hosts to fast-track promising local startups onto the world stage. The program leverages HYPE’s existing sportstech platform which already engages over 8,000 startups and 20,000 sports innovators across the world and The University of Queensland’s experience in the entrepreneurial and innovation space and standing as a top 5 global sports science university.

Twelve teams from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and India have been selected to participate in this 15-week virtual program that culminates in a Global Pitch Event at the Commonwealth Games.

In addition to seeking investment and connections, teams will be competing for a $25,000AUD grand prize provided by The University of Queensland and admission into the elite HYPE Global Top50 Program.

The event will be MC’d by Olympic swimmer, Haley Lewis with special guest judge, former Reebok CEO Uli Becker.

  • Dr. Christine Williams – Queensland Chief Scientist


View these sports innovations first hand and network into the afternoon on the beautiful Gold Coast beach with investors, startups and international delegates.

Transportation to and from Brisbane (UQ St. Lucia) and the Gold Coast will be available for attendees on the day.

About the Commonwealth Games

Every 4 years, athletes from the over 50 countries that comprise The Commonwealth of Nations, compete in an international multi-sport event whose scale and magnitude is matched only by the Olympics. The Commonwealth Games bring together not only the athletes and their supporters, provides an opportunity for government and business leaders to meet, build new relationships, strengthen trade and investment ties and explore opportunities across the Commonwealth.

Who Should Attend

This event provides a perfect opportunity for Australian and international sports and sportstech investors, influencers and stakeholders to network and connect with these startups as they launch into the global market. We are looking to fill the limited number of seats in the audience with

  • Investors- Angels, VCs and other potential investors that are specifically looking to invest in the sports and sportstech space.

  • Sports Influencers- People embedded in the sports industry through positions in sports organizations, companies with a sports brand or sports focus and professional athletes.

  • Stakeholders- Government officials from all represented nations and Commonwealth Games committee members as well as HYPE Sports Innovation and University stakeholders.

  • Media- Traditional as well as digital media presence, specifically outlets focused on entrepreneurship and startups and sports.
