Description

Join us Saturday, October 28th 2017 at the Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island Texas to help raise money for Hurricane Harvey relief. 100% of proceeds will be donated to United Way of the Coastal Bend Disaster Relief Fund. 100% of donations will help storm victims.

Entertainment will be provided by Lobo Del Mar. Lobo Del Mar is a family band and dance troupe in South Padre Island, Texas. Doors open at 6pm.

More about Lobo Del Mar:

Lobo Del Mar is a family. One family, whose members form, among other endeavors, a Celtic band and dance troupe. Over the years this family has traveled the globe, experiencing dozens of cultures, and absorbing their influences along the way. What began as a Celtic band has become something indefinable, though when pressed we’ll say “world music and dance”. Audiences are given a taste of the family’s mixed heritage, as well as all the beautiful places this family has called home.

“We are a Celtic band…but we wander. We may play the bagpipes or put them down to travel through the Middle East, Latin America or Polynesia. Sometimes we choose to stay right here at home with Bluegrass or Western Swing music…” – LDM

More about United Way of the Coastal Bend:

  • United Way of the Coastal Bend serves 9 counties, four of which are in the federal disaster declaration zone – Nueces, San Patricio, Bee and Kleberg.
  • The fund will benefit victims in our LOCAL service area including the towns of Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Gregory, Portland, Taft, Ingleside-on-the-Bay, etc.
  • While not specifically in our service area, United Way of the Coastal Bend can act as the fiscal agent for any funds designated for Aransas County (Rockport-Fulton) and ensure they are used for the benefit of storm victims in that county.
  • We have visited the affected areas and have seen first-hand the devastation particularly in Port Aransas, Rockport, Aransas Pass and Ingleside.
  • The Disaster Relief Fund is separate from our annual campaign fund that supports our annual grants to local programs. (Last year, we assisted more than 126,000 people in our service area through programs focused on improving health, education and financial stability).
  • Through a simple application process, we will distribute funds to trusted partners providing relief support to individuals such as food, transportation and housing and rental assistance. We will mandate that 100% of any funds we invest in those partners be used for disaster relief.
  • 25% of the funds on hand will be distributed ASAP for emergency needs. The deadline for applying for those funds is this week.
  • Other funds will be invested with local organizations working on long-term, rebuilding efforts – rebuilding lives and communities – and we will be here long after federal assistance and emergency agencies have left. We want to fill in the gaps for long-term recovery. Again, 100% of those funds must be used for disaster recovery and relief – no admin fees.
  • United Way of the Coastal Bend is a transparent organization and will provide regular public updates and reports on use of the funds.
  • United Way of the Coastal Bend is celebrating its 81st anniversary, and we are locally owned and operated.
  • United Way of the Coastal Bend has earned a four-star rating – the highest score available -- from Charity Navigator, an independent assessor of non-profit organizations.
