A Star Weave jam
as part of Week Without Violence
Hosted by Hume Domestic Violence Network and supported by the Hume CREW.
What is Week Without Violence ?
WWV is a worldwide anniversary that gives voice to female survivors of violence through the ClothesLine Project and other activities. Women’s Health In the North lead actions regionally and the Hume Domestic Violence Network (HDVN) locally in Hume. This year the HDVN is hosting an information stall and creative activities for the public in the Broadmeadows Shopping Centrefor the whole of the Week Without Violence (3rd Week of October)
What is the One Million Stars to End Violence project ?
The One Million Stars to End Violence project began in Melbourne in 2012 and engages the community in making symbols of light, courage and solidarity to end all forms of violence, including violence against women, bullying and racism. These symbols are in the form of ribbon stars that will be displayed at the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
What is a star weave jam
A star weave jam is a gathering of people who make stars as part of the One Million Stars Project.
Why should you come?
Hume CREW is an alliance of community groups and organisations that are collaborating to create a culture of equality and respect for women in Hume. The Star Weave Jam is an opportunity for members to start engaging other people within their community sector in the work that we are doing and to give yourself the opportunity to acknowledge your own experiences with the issue of violence disrespect and inequality of women. You are encouraged to invite your network of colleagues, friends and family. Men are welcome and encouraged to join in and make stars to represent their commitment to womens health, wellbeing and safety.
What to expect
There will be craft tables set up alongside the information stand presented by the Hume Domesic Violence Network in the Broadmeadows Shopping Centre. You will have the opportunity to make as many stars out of ribbon as you wish, and are welcome to take them home. We would however love it if you can leave some to be displayed and sent off to the Commonwealth Games Office.
